N 381 Series “Shinano” 6-Car Basic Set
The 381 series, the only tilting train of the former JNR that was used for commercial service, was modified after the
privatization of the railways to increase the number of possible train services. The 381 series operated by the Shinano Line at
the Jōryō Electric Train Depot, and had various configurations, including the high-driver’s cabin 0 series, the panoramic car 10
series, and the 50 series. Among them, the KURO 381 0 series, a mid-modified car, is characterized by its single door on the
front and a large, protruding gangway cover. It was used in various formations, such as with seasonal additions, according to
the general demand.
A new addition to the 381 series “Shinano” lineup is here, introducing the KURO 381 0 series, a mid-modified car with a
distinctive front. It can be enjoyed in various formations ranging from 4 to 9 cars.
Model Features:
① A formation from the Jōryō Electric Train Depot around 1993, with bogies and underbody equipment painted in gray, and
a JR mark on the side.
② The KURO 381-0 series features include a side door positioned close to the driver’s cabin, a single through-door on the
front, and a distinctive front cover.
③ The basic set’s KUHA 381-12 replicates the early model with a single wiper on the front window.
④ The intermediate coupling section includes a body-mounted tight-lock coupler without hook, the front section is equipped
with a dummy coupler, also includes couplers and a skirt.
⑤ The lavatory window is white only on the KUHA 381, the windows on the KURO 381 and MOHA 380 are transparent.
⑥ The H rubber color is black for all side door windows, while the front name display and side destination signs are
represented in gray.
⑦ The slotless motor ensures smooth and quiet running performance.
⑧ Equipped with KATO’s realistic body tilting mechanism, making the train tilt its body inward when passing curves.
⑨ Headlights, taillights, and name displays are lit using white LEDs, each leading car is equipped with a light switch.
⑩ The name display uses a changeable train mark system and includes the marks: “Shinano”「しなの(イラスト)」, “Shupūru
Togeike / Happo,” )」「シュプール栂池・八方」,”Ina Route”「伊那路」, and “Special” 「臨時」markings.
⑪ The basic set bookcase has a total storage capacity up to a full 9-car formation.
